17 Feb Need a little push, to take a leap of faith?
A few years ago my wife and I quit our jobs, and drove round Australia with our two daughters. We had an absolutely amazing time, and while it wasn’t the best financial move you could imagine, it gave us the time and space to reconnect as a family, and it gave me the headspace to set up my own business again.
People started asking me to do some work, and by the time we’d completed the big lap a year later, Barry Scott Associates was almost up and running.
I also took about 20,000 photographs, kept a journal and wrote a children’s book on the way round, and now, years later, I’m finally putting it out there.
We were inspired to do the trip by others so if I can pay it forward, then, surely that’s the way the world should work. There’s been a lot of soul searching going on the last few years, so if you’re getting close doing something outlandish, then maybe this can help tip you over the edge.
The more people over the edge the better, as far as I‘m concerned.
And, as it turns out, ‘letting go’ for a year led to business opportunities I wouldn’t have dreamed of beforehand, and allowed me the privilege of aligning my work with organisations that share my values. A real employee benefit, if ever there was one.
Anyway, to those who wished me well all these years ago, and wondered how it worked out, to all those who need a little push, or to all those who simply want to find out what driving round Australia with a two year old is like (!) …here it is….
